the GOOD: nice size & shape, fairly easy to setup, nice touch screen. the BAD: would not connect to WiFi until I removed the WiFi security (WEP nor WPA), first & second contact in the directory are fixed "telephone" and "dialing test" that cannot be removed they are annoying each time I want to call someone, video occassionally locks up or does not start. Bought this for Grandma and I want it to be VERY simple so she will use it to call us, I'm still debating if I will give it to her with these problems or not.

At comparable price to a cellphone, this $219 unit does what we've always been seeing in science fiction movies since the 80's... or was it the 70's?
I have been using a Netgear SPH200D... but I got it when it was cheap... around $120. The price shot up right after I got it, and right now, this is a MUCH better deal than that audio-only Netgear phone.
The unit boots up in seconds, logs in automatically, and you're online in 1 minute! Of course, you'll have to go through the initial set up of wifi password and Skype login, but once that's done, using this is as easy as hitting a speed dial key in your office phone.
Okay, this unit has a few small drawbacks, but not enough for me to stop raving about it though.
Here're the "cons" of the unit:
- Battery life... the battery is really designed for short term away from a power outlet. 20-30 minutes. But here's the thing, the battery felt LIGHT... that means someone can actually make a higher capacity battery if they wanted to.
- The stand is not foldable, so this unit really cannot be considered "portable". You'd find it hard to stick this in any kind of travel bag due to the odd shape. But I would agree it's "portable within your home".
- The contact list doesn't separate phone contact vs skype contact. So it's not possible to get a nice "who's online" list that you can see in a quick glance, like the PC or iPod Touch app.
- I read somewhere someone mentioned the camera was not up to par... well, really, this isn't a photographic device, it's meant for video calling. So I'll half agree that the low megapixel camera can be improved.
Other areas of possible improvement:
- It makes a great clock when not in a call (it shows the time, but goes away after a minute). Why not make the clock a permanent feature, and add in an alarm?
- The 7" screen is big enough to make it a digital photo frame, ASUS should think about adding a simple SD card slot for personal photos.
Despite all the above, this is a FANTASTIC Skype phone. The design is futuristic, the controls are simple enough, the video call quality is great for what it is... highly recommended!

I purchased this device so that I would have a good speakerphone to use at home for when I don't want to work at the office. Over all, I am very pleased with this product. It has good sound quality and seldom has a sound blip which might just be my internet connection. The one thing it is missing is a handset. It does have a hookup for a headset but you cannot use the usb port for this which is very disappointing. I wanted to get a bluetooth headset so it would be a bit more portable. However, I figured this out before I ever purchased the device and that is a small quibble. This purchase was money well spent.

I bought one of these for my nephew, and one for my son, this past Christmas. They LOVE calling and seeing eachother on the screen. It is really cool for people who have family out of town. (You will both need to buy one though). I actually just bought a 3rd one for my parents who live across the country.
They are SO EXCITED to be able to see their grandchildren every day! It is really a grandparent's dream gift! The video isn't the best, but it is pretty darn good! There is a little gray/fuzziness, but not too much. Have you seen when Oprah Skypes on her show? It's just like that.
But don't think the picture on your screen is going to look like the picture they show you on the product box. It isn't that clear! That is a photograph.
Overall, we are really happy with it! For $250 and free video calls, it's worth it!

Easy to setup and use, the battery has very short duration about 30 to 60 min, otherwise a good product for people you want to reach with skype, but can't or will not be able to use a laptop or pc. The camera quality could be better compare with netbooks.
